General Information

The 18th International Conference on Construction Applications of Virtual Reality (CONVR2018: Evolving Construction: Towards a technological revolution) will be held in Auckland, New Zealand, 22 to 23 November 2018.

Auckland, based around 2 large harbours, is a major city in the north of New Zealand’s North Island. It is a melting pot of Asian, Pacific and European cultures and cuisines. In the centre, the iconic Sky Tower has views of Viaduct Harbour, which is full of superyachts and lined with bars and cafes. Auckland Domain, the city’s oldest park, is based around an extinct volcano and home to the formal Wintergardens. Near Downtown, Mission Bay Beach has a seaside promenade. The conference will be held at the University of Auckland’s new state of the art Science Centre.

The organising committee would like to welcome scholars and practitioners from around the globe to present and discuss the latest research and development ideas in the field of Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR) and Building Information Modelling (BIM). CONVR2018 will provide a unique opportunity to discuss future strategies and directions of research and development in this exciting field with renowned researchers and practitioners.

Keynote Speakers

Prof John Messner, Penn State University, USA

RA

John Messner is a professor of architectural engineering. He has special research interests in advanced visualisation technologies for construction design. He is the director of the Computer Integrated Construction (CIC) Research Program at Penn State.

Prof Nashwan Dawood, Teesside University, UK

RA

Nash is the Director of the Technology Futures Institute, through which the engineering, science and technology research at Teesside University in UK is structured and supported. His research and consultancy has ranged from sustainable construction to 4 & 5D modelling and VR.

History

The International Conference on Construction Applications of Virtual Reality was initiated by Prof. Nashwan Dawood. The first CONVR was held in Teesside, Middlesbrough, UK in 2000.

The conference focuses on the fields of Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) which are forward-looking technologies that enable considerable benefits in all stages of the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) process, from initial planning and conceptual design to facility management and operations. Over the last 18 years the conference has been held all around the globe and sponsored by major software and engineering companies:
