How to make your entries for

THE WORDY BITS

I shall send you a request to review a piece of the handbook for any such piece for which you are responsible. I know who you are, because I have a list, mostly defined by the head of department, but with a few brave volunteers. It's your responsibility to review the material, check that it's still current ( and will be current next year ), make any changes to the text which you think are necessary, and then return the new version. Please return the new version even if there is no change - in which case it will, obviously, be the same as the old version.

There isn't a lot of clever formatting in most of the straightforward information parts of the handbook, so the files are fairly simple. I think that all you'll need to do the editing is common sense, though it might help to look at the general comments about editing the files. If you bear in mind the significance of the mark-up symbols, and that you need two ends-of-line ( paragraph marks, in Word ) in the file if you want to be sure of one in the final version, then all will probably be well.

Most of the handbook is simple text, but that's only because no one has asked for anything else. If you want pictures, diagrams, tables, etc., let me know. If you send me pictures or diagrams ( to alan, not to inco - inco isn't clever enough ) as mail attachments, I'll probably be able to make sense of them. Tables which were there last year will probably ( well, might ) come to you in mark-up form; it should be self-explanatory. If there are any new tables, you're welcome to try making mark-up versions; if you prefer, you can send me ( alan ) the data as a word-processor file and I'll fit it in. ( Next year it might come to you in mark-up form. )

The remarks on this page are specific to the main text in the body of the handbooks. Please also look at the more general descriptions and requests which apply to the handbook as a whole if you're not familiar with them.
