April 24th Alan Creak "Who needs what ?" - Alan offered opinions on whether the church is just another social welfare agency.
May 1st Laurie Wesley "The quest for the historical Jesus - what progress so far ? should it be undertaken ?" - Laurie commented on some books he had recently read.
May 8th anyone with an axe to grind A current affairs discussion.
May 15th Peter Murnane Non-violent resistance; we saw part of the video "A force more powerful".
May 22nd anyone with an axe to grind A current affairs discussion.
May 29th The company Current affairs with a theme : We discussed the meaning of "spirituality" as currently understood, and a variety of loosely related topics. Robust and energetic !


What we did in the second semester, 2001 :

July 17th Peter Murnane We began to work our way through New Heaven, New Earth, by Richard G. Cleaver [Rose Hill Books, 1993]. It is a collection of essays on the Catholic Worker programme. Today Peter introduced the book, and we covered the Introduction and the chapter on Economics.
July 24th Terry Wall New Heaven, New Earth : Politics.
July 31st Peter Murnane New Heaven, New Earth : Politics, continued.
August 7th nobody, really The intention was to continue our discussion from New Heaven, New Earth, but very few people turned up, so we deferred it. Those who did turn up waffled about a bit, but then got embroiled in a very interesting discussion about the nature of justice, and related topics. We should do this more often .....
August 14th Alan Creak ( appointed by the meeting ) New Heaven, New Earth : Psychology.
August 23rd Peter Murnane New Heaven, New Earth : finished Psychology, just started Social relations.

September 11th Terry Wall ( "volunteered" ) New Heaven, New Earth : Social Relations, continued.
September 18th Alan Creak ( "volunteered" ) New Heaven, New Earth : Social Relations, continued.
September 25th Peter Murnane New Heaven, New Earth : Social Relations - finished ! ( and well worth the time ).
October 2nd someone New Heaven, New Earth : Return to nature.

someone We carried on with the discussion of New Heaven, New Earth until we got to the end. I think I must have been busy, because I made no record of the meetings, but I know we were so enthusiastic that we went on for a week after the end of lectures, when we usually stop, so that we could finish it.
