From: John Hamer [j-hamer@cs.auckland.ac.nz] Sent: Monday, 7 May 2001 15:10 To: academic@cs.auckland.ac.nz Subject: ACM student chapter formation On Wednesday, Hal Berghel from the ACM will be giving a seminar at 1pm. One of the reasons for Hal's visit is to instigate the formation of an ACM student chapter. To this end, I have suggested that we invite interested students to the talk, after which any students wanting to form a chapter will be invited to step forward. The student chapter is intended to cater for students at all levels. If you are giving a lecture today or tomorrow, perhaps you could mention this event to the class. I have included some brief information below. ACM Student Chapter WHO? Students interested in computer science and software engineering. WHAT? · Run by students, for students · Meet with other interested students · Visit local companies · Programming competitions · Invited talks on topics of interest · Etc. etc. WHY? · Enhance your educational experience · Build a network of future colleagues · Have fun WEDNESDAY 9 MAY · There is a seminar by Hal Berghel, ACM distinguished lecturer (1pm, Room 246 Maths/Physics) · After the seminar, students will be invited to indicate their interest in forming a chapter -- -- Dr. John Hamer J.Hamer@cs.auckland.ac.nz -- Department of Computer Science http://www.cs.auckland.ac.nz -- University of Auckland Phone: +64 9 3737 599 x8758 -- Private Bag 92019, Auckland, New Zealand.
