Course Work - Seminars

This assessment is 30% of your final grade. There are three components: interim report (5%), final report (20%) and presentation (5%).

Interim report: - due 28th March

The interim report is so that you and the lecturers are in agreement on the scope and direction of your research report and seminar Interim report - due 28th March to Web Dropbox please submit as pdf.

Abstract

Introduce and scope your topic (200 words)

Body - (800 words)

Summary of 3 related research publications by different authors. Each publication should receive roughly equal treatment and the publications should be compared with each other. These must be peer refereed research papers. Anything from the IEEE Explore, ACM Digital library or Lecture notes in Computer Science (all available through library e databases) is acceptable, as are other Journal and conference publications

References

Provide a full reference in Apa style for each of your three publications. This Referencite web site has useful instructions on how to reference and cite work Provide an electronic link to each of your papers - ie acm digital library, authors webpage - we should be able to click directly to the paper

Document Structure

Your document must be structured according to Chi document formats MS Word or Latex).

Final Report - due 23rd April

Use the chi style for your report as above. Your word count should be between 3000 and 4000 words (excluding references) The page limit including pictures and references is 7 pages
Suggested structure
Abstract
Introduction
Body – Your report should demonstrate that you have an integrated understanding of the literature. It should discuss the following points as appropriate: problem and sub problems, approaches, findings, methodologies. We expect that you will have extended your review to at least six different research groups/authors.
Summary - very brief conclusions
Future work – identify gaps and shortcomings for topic

Presentation - due 28th April

10 minutes + 5 minutes questions – suggested structure same as above. Maximum of 8 ppt slides
