Research Report/Seminar
Student Reports
This assessment is 30% of your final grade. There are three components: interim report (5%), final report (20%) and presentation (5%).
Your first task is to select a research topic from the list provided.
Interim report:
Abstract – introduce and scope your topic (200 words)
Summaries of 3 related research publications by different authors. These must be peer refereed research papers. Anything from the IEEE Explore, ACM Digital library or Lecture notes in Computer Science (all available through library e databases) is acceptable, as are other Journal and conference publications
For each publication you must
1 summarize the paper in 200 words
2 describe how it relates to the topic
3 provide a full reference in chi style ( MS Word or Latex).
4 provide an electronic link to the paper
Final Report
Use the chi style for your report.
We expect your word count will be between 3000 and 4000 words (excluding bibliography)
The page limit including pictures and bibliography is 7 pages

- Abstract
Introduction
Body – problem and sub problems –approaches and findings. This must be an intergrated review of the work on the topic. A cut and paste of the summaries from the interim report is not satisfactory and will gain very few marks.
Summary - very brief conclusions
Future work – identify gaps and shortcomings for topic
Presentation
5 minutes + 2 minutes questions – suggested structure same as above. Maximum or 5 ppt slides

Administration
Interim report - due 23rd March to Web Dropbox
please submit as rtf, if created with word. and as pdf, if created with LaTeX.
Final report - due 23 April to Web Dropbox
Presentation slides as ppt to Web Dropbox 26th April (note size restriction, make sure your images are compressed)
Presentations as scheduled between 27th April and 11th May
