Research Report/Seminar

Student Reports
This assessment is 30% of your final grade. There are three components: interim report (5%), final report (20%) and presentation (5%).

Your first task is to select a research topic from the list provided.

Interim report:
Abstract – introduce and scope your topic (200 words)
Summaries of 3 related research publications by different authors. These must be peer refereed research papers. Anything from the IEEE Explore, ACM Digital library or Lecture notes in Computer Science (all available through library e databases) is acceptable, as are other Journal and conference publications

For each publication you must
1 summarize the paper in 200 words
2 describe how it relates to the topic
3 provide a full reference in chi style ( MS Word or Latex).
4 provide an electronic link to the paper

Final Report
Use the chi style for your report. We expect your word count will be between 3000 and 4000 words (excluding bibliography) The page limit including pictures and bibliography is 7 pages

Suggested structure
Abstract
Introduction
Body – problem and sub problems –approaches and findings. This must be an intergrated review of the work on the topic. A cut and paste of the summaries from the interim report is not satisfactory and will gain very few marks.
Summary - very brief conclusions
Future work – identify gaps and shortcomings for topic

Presentation
5 minutes + 2 minutes questions – suggested structure same as above. Maximum or 5 ppt slides
Schedule for the Presentations (Excel Spreadsheet)
Presentation Slides (Under Construction)
