Undergraduate Project in Computer Science: COMPSCI 380 Semester 1, City

Prerequisites: An excellent academic record and departmental approval required.

Assessment: 100% on course assessment - project report.

Description: The project consists of supervised independent research or development work on a topic related to Computer Science.

Enrolment: To enrol in this programme you are required to seek a staff member to supervise your project. You are also required to complete the Supervisor Confirmation form and have it signed off by the Computer Science BSc(Hons)/Project Coordinator - Prof Jim Warren (jim@cs.auckland.ac.nz) Note, Dr Marc Vinyals is Deputy Project Coordinator and can be contacted if Prof Warren is unavailable.

How to find a supervisor:
Check out the Computer Science research pages

Email your prospective supervisor with the following information:

  • Why you are contacting them
  • A copy of your academic transcript
  • A proposed area of interest
  • Your ID number
Note that it is entirely at the discretion of a staff member to take on supervision of a 380 project student. Ideally, the agreed topic should be one of mutual interest and a good fit to the supervisor's research agenda.

When you have agreed a topic with your potential supervisor, complete the Supervisor Confirmation form as linked above according to its instructions

Submission: The project report is due at 5pm on the Monday after the last day of lectures in the semester of your enrolment in COMPSCI 380. Email an electronic copy of your report to your supervisor and the Student Administrator who will log your submission.

Note: It can take some time to examine your project report. You may not receive your grade in time to attend the upcoming graduation ceremony.
