Topic: Secure-by-design approach Starting from a start-up idea, Massive Attack Security has grown into a professional services company offering network design and security planning. One of our core skill areas is the design of reliable and secure business networks with a particular interest in wireless technologies. Over time we have discovered that many of the audited networks have incrementally grown over time. It's no surprise that networks grow as fast and engineers can add computers, servers, switches, VPN concentrators, access points and the like to meet growing business demands. Often technology is rushed through as a response to the changing social trends in the organisation and without considerations to the design of the network - this is particularly relevant in adding wireless segments to the core network architecture. Secure-by-design is an approach we adapted that incorporates best practice guidelines into the network design at the conception stage, separates risk areas and allows companies to deploy new network technology faster. In this presentation we will discuss this approach to infrastructure design as well as its benefits and drawbacks and particularly focus on the role of wireless networks within larger network deployments. Presenter: Alex Dunayev Alex Dunayev is an executive in a number of software and technical services companies started from the University of Auckland; amongst them Massive Attack Security, a services company in the field of security audit and network infrastructure design. His areas of research interest include e-government, computer security, information recovery and rapid application development. Alex was awarded an Honours post-graduate degree from University of Auckland majoring in Information Systems as well as scholarships including the 2003 Bates Scholarship in Computer Forensics.
