General assignment advice
- Assignments for COMPSCI 314 are to be submitted in the Web Dropbox.
- Your marks will be posted to Cecil.

You should submit assignments if at all possible.
A missed assignment usually drops your final result by one grade.
While a drop from B to B- might be a point of honour, a drop from C- to D+ may be quite serious. -
If you have questions about assignment marks, lost results and so on, these
should be raised within say 2 weeks of the assignment being returned.
I do not look kindly on people who complain after the exam that their assignment 1 was lost. - Missing assignments can make it very difficult to grant an aegrotat or compassionate pass if you have misfortune around the time of the examination.
- Questions from assignments often seem to reappear in the final examination ........
Cheating and PlagiarismThe Department of Computer Science has instituted a general policy on cheating and plagiarism.Briefly, if we detect material in assignments or projects that appears to be copied from elsewhere, we will give zero marks for that assignment or project. Appeals must be in writing to the Head of Department (not to the lecturer). You may read the official statement of the Departmental policy. Warning In the 2004 offering of COMPSCI 314, eleven students achieved an assignment mark of 0 (zero) because of cheating and plagiarism on the first assignment. |

- Assignment 2, due: 9:00 am, Monday 17 September 2007. Sample solutions for assignment 2.
- Assignment 3, version 1.2, due: 9:00 am, Monday 22 October 2007. Original version posted 20 Sept 07; v1.1 (with minor corrections) posted 27 Sept 07; v1.2 (minor corrections) posted 28 Sept 07.
