The Council invites applications for

A LECTURESHIP IN THE COMPUTER CENTRE

 

The University will shortly install a large-scale computer, a Burroughs B6700.
The Computer Centre is responsible for developing and maintaining an effective
digital computing service for all aspects of campus activity, and for providing
instruction
in computation at several levels.
Conditions of Appointment
1.  The Lecturer will be responsible to the Director of the Computer Centre for
such duties as may be required.

Duties will include - the teaching of elementary and advanced programming
courses for undergraduates, graduate students, and staff members, informal
short courses in various aspects of computer science; consultative and
advisory assistance for senior members of the University.
2.The minimum academic qualification is a higher degree, preferably Ph.D or
equivalent. Preference will be given to applicants whose qualification is
in some field other than computing but applicants must have considerable
experience in some aspects of digital computers or their use. Some teaching
experience is desirable.
3.Salary
The present salary scale for a Lecturer is NZ$5,589 per annum, rising to
$7,149 per annum by six annual increments. Commencing salary within this
scale will be determined in accordance with qualifications and experience.
In normal circumstances, a lecturer whose services have proved satisfactory
to the Council may expect in due course to be given the status of a senior
lecturer (salary maximum $8,579 per annum - the bar on the Senior Lecturers'
scale.
4.The Lecturer will be expected to take up his duties in February 1973 or such
other date as may be arranged with the University Council.
5.The appointment will be subject also to the General Conditions outlined in the
statement attached.
6.Applications in accordance with 'Method of Application' will be accepted at
any time up to 20 OCTOBER 1972.
