Mt. Huangshan is a UNESCO World Heritage area and lies in the south of the Anhui province in China. The mountain can be explored by foot in 2-4 days using the more then 40000 steps cut into the rock. For less active people three cable cars provide access to it - there are also several (very expensive) hotels at various locations on top of the mountain. Some of them have dormitory accomodation available - as far as I know camping is not allowed. Food and drinks rapidly increase in price the higher up the mountain you get, so be warned :P .
Most visitors climb Mt. Huangshan via the "Eastern Steps" and return via the "Western Steps".
On the next morning we get rewarded with a beautiful sunrise. This photo was taken from a cliff close to the "Refreshing Terrace". The sun rises very early (in our case it was about 4.40am local time - so if you want ot get a good view point you better get up early and bring a torch to find your way.
The famous "Sea of Clouds" at Mt. Huangshan .... watching the clouds racing over the rugged mountains and filling the valleys is a marvellous experience.
A picture of "Moneky Rock" close to the "Pleasant Terrace".
The Beihai hotel is a good place to stay if you are keen to see the sunrise the next morning - if you can afford it :P
View of Shixin peak (1683m) which is close to the top of the "Eastern Steps".
This photo was taken on the way to the "Flying Rock" and shows some of the amazing cliffs and a bit of Tianhai lake.
The track from the Bright Summit peak to the Lotus flower peak.
The climb up to Lotus Flower peak is easy.
View of the Heavenly Capital peak and the Yupinglou hotel from the Lotus Flower peak.
The descent from the Lotus Flower peak down to Yupinglou hotel is not for the faint hearted.
