Benson Chia: President 1996-1997

[BA/LLB,3rd year.]

[Based on his statement when he was Publicity secretary: ed.]

I'm serving in AOCF because I want to serve God in New Zealand. If God has brought me all the way to New Zealand, how can I tell God to wait while I finish my studies first? And if I don't start now, when will I start? When I get a job? When things go well for me? For me, I think these are all lame excuses. We owe God too much and while we can never repay by works, God has given us grace that we may take on new challenges in our life. Everything, big or small, is a challenge as long as we take that God-given opportunity and do our best.

AOCF means a lot to me because I have gained so much prayer and encouragement and support. Serving is just one way to make that environment of care and share a little better for others who come our way. It's a way of improving on the previous year's gains. Most importantly, it's an acknowledgment that it is God's work, not ours to claim. Come failures, come successes, come joy, come trials. Jesus has gone through all of those (and more) and He has set us an example, that we may follow in His steps.

P/S: You've guessed it -- prayer, encouragement and support are my keywords in this work.

Mei-Fern Wong: Secretary 1996-1997

Mei Fern WongHi people! My name is Mei Fern and I am definitely very much in AOCF! 1996 is my second year in both AOCF and the University of Auckland. I am currently working towards a Bachelor of Commerce/ LLB degree and would graduate, hopefully, before everyone else does!

I was the secretary of AOCF last year and would be taking up the challenge again this year. I have really enjoyed the experiences as a Committee member. God has raised up Committee members who have a desire and passion in serving in AOCF. They are people who have seen the great potential that AOCF has on campus, reaching out to people of all nations and culture.

Serving in AOCF has taught me to rely on God's strength, enabling me to grow in my faith. It has also given me endless opportunities to see God's amazing works, ever so abundantly, more than we could ever ask for. I learnt how to pray, knowing now the faithfulness of God regarding my prayers. Basically, I come out of the whole experience with one ever true impression - "God is GOOD!"

Siew-Lian Muk: Treasurer 1996-1997

Siew Lian MukHello out there. My name is Siew Lian and I am the treasurer of AOCF. I joined AOCF in 1995 and I really learned heaps from the people. I wanted to give back to CF what they had given to me and that was the main reason I took up committee last year. [I'm in the second year of my B.Com/LLB conjoint degree....three more years to go!]

This year, God has given me a vision for AOCF. I'd really love to see the fellowship actively reading the Word of God even when they are not asked to and even when they are not in their Impact Teams. I believe that the Lord wants us all to be diligently studying His Word and to search for the answers to our many questions ourselves, instead of always relying on Church or on the fellowship. There are many resources out there that would provide us with spiritual food if only we'd grab the opportunity. Therefore, let us all make it a point to study the Bible seriously. That is the vision that the Lord has placed in my heart. May the Lord make the journey of knowing and learning about Him the most exciting thing in all our lives.
